The Club association, in reaction to the decision of the Spanish Federation to play the "Copa de la Reina" with only 4 teams, officially anounced that they will paralyse the competition for the next two games which were supposed to be played on December 19th and 22nd. They consider the "Copa de la Reina" to be the main event of the season, the one which has the best media coverage and brings very good promotion for the sponsors. As a matter of fact, they request the Federation to reconsider their decision and get back to eight teams...

Russian Cup: Dynamo Moscow vs Orenburg
| |
Dynamo Moscow lost at home to Orenburg 66 - 76. The Moscow team made a really good start and even got a 23pts lead at the half time. But the visitors showed another face after the big break and in the second half it was already their turn to show the teeth. They vigirously seized the initiative and managed to break the course of the game, which allowed them to walk away with the win. Unfortunately for Moscow, it was their extremely poor free throws performance as they had only 2/3. On the contrary, Orenburg managed to get 13/14 shots, which finally brought them to the victory.

Russian Cup: Vologda vs Dynamo Kursk
| |
Vologda defeated Kursk with a tremendous score 88 - 60. It must be a very satisfactory win for Vologda as in Superleague A they rank much lower than Kursk in the standings. Actually, it was their effor in the second half that helped them to win as at the half time it was still Kursk who were leading (33-37). After the long break the hosts were so much outraged that even inflicted on the visitors 26-7 in the last quarter. Vologda showed a more collective game with 23as and managed to make the opponent accumulate 24 turnovers. Definitely, their scoring came from their two-point shooting.

Important win of St.Petersburg

The match between Vologda and St.Petersburg was really impotant for both teams as the result was to define who of them would go up and who would go down in the standings. Vologda lost to St.Petersburg 72 - 90 and thus rank now the last but one. Respectively, St.Petersburg went up to the 7th place. The winner built their win in the first half and let the second half be quite balanced. The visitors outrebounded Voloogda and made them accumulate too many turnovers. Moreover, it's their agressiveness that helped St.Petersburg to win in this game as they performed 16st and very efficient in their shooting of free throws (15/16).

Indeed, they totally destroyed the opponent inside the key grabbing 15 offensive rebounds and provoking 31 fouls, which allowed them to score 35pts from the free-thows line. However, Napoli made a deserving effort and they were better at avoiding turnovers and displayed a good stealing performance.

Gorzow lost at home in a very tight game with Rivas (79 - 82). To say it was a tight game is to say nothing. The score at the half time was 39-39, but after the big break the guests made a deserving acceleration to get a 10pts lead, which in the end helped them to win. In the fourth quarter it was already Gorzow's turn to seize the initiative but their effort was 3pts weaker than the the one made by Rivas in the third quarter. More disappointing this loss should be for Gorzow as they were really ahead of their opponent in many sectors (in assisting: 17-9, offensive rebounding: 10-2, stealing: 9-6). And let alone their three-point shooting performance, where they scored 10 shots! In theor turn, Rivas can boast that out of six players who participated in the game, five scored double figures.

The third match-up of the qualifying round in group B was between Beretta-Famila and Mizo Pecs and finished in favor of the hosts with quite a close score 69 - 62. The Italian team took the initiative at the beginning og the match and got a 40-28 lead at the half time. This margin of 12pts helped them not to lose thir win in the second half when Pecs woke up and increased their pressure. Pecs problem was the fact thant they were not really collaborative whereas Beretta performed 11ass and inflicted 14 turnovers on the opponent. Still, it was definitely Italians' two-point shooting performance which helped them to win as in three-pointers and free throws their results are worse then Pecs'.

Taranto hosted Galatasaray and managed to defeat them 77 - 63 thanks to a good start. At the half time they got a 32-21 lead and this margin of 11pts allowed them to go ahead even though the guests tried to resist better in the second half. The hosts were better at scoring of three-pointers - and this is the sector that was decisive for them as the result of two-point shooting and free throws was more or less the same for both sides. Galatassaray could be proud of their rebounding performance (25-30) with 13 offensive rebounds.

Both teams had very different performances: Brno went to take their points inside the key and from the free-throws line whereas Prague didn't show big aggressiveness and attemtped more three-point shots.

Kursk got their win already at the half time as their lead was 24pts - just as many as Spartak managed to score by that time. Dynamo were clearly more efficient and more cooperative on the court, as for Spartak, they had a very bad 1/8 three-point shooting performance.

A loss inflicted by the favorite

It seems that this season is quite hard for Dynamo Moscow as they now rank 6th in the standings after being destroyed by the favorite UMMC 64 - 92. Even though UMMC took the initiative at the very beginning, Dynamo tried hard to resist to them in the first half and were losing at the half time only by 10pts. Unfortunately for them, the team went all to pieces in the second half and could no more resist to the pressure of Ekaterinburg. Ekaterinburg were outstanding in their cooperative game with 24 assits. Also the results of the teams at free throws were disparate: 8/10 for Dynamo, 22/25 for UMMC.
Dynamo Moscow 64 - 92 UMMC Ekaterinburg (22-30, 35-45, 50-71) Dynamo Moscow: N.Vodopiyanova (12pts, 3st, 7reb), M.Kuzina (12pts, 7reb), T.Popova (11pts, 2ass, 3reb), E.Keyru (7pts, 4ass, 2st, 3reb), V.Dorosheva (7pts), A.Mikheeva (6pts), A.Logunova (5pts, 8reb), V.Plotnikova (2pts), V.Sholokhova (2pts).
